Chapter 10

Nervousness crept in when she arrived on Cade’s doorstep to pick him up the next morning. She knocked lightly and waited for someone to answer. She could hear rustling on the other side of the door and could hear Amy chattering happily. The door finally opened, and Beth greeted her cheerfully. Selena suddenly felt a twinge of guilt about dragging Cade away from them.

“Are you all right?” Beth asked.

“No, I was hoping maybe Cade would have changed his mind about this whole insane idea. I wish he would listen to reason.” Selena said.

“Cade has never listened to anyone.” Beth rolled her eyes. “Besides, what is wrong with him going with you to protect you? He is more than well qualified for the job. If anyone tries to hurt you, Cade can take them down.” She stepped aside, and Selena entered the living room.

“I just can’t bear the thought of him getting hurt.”

“Don’t worry. He will be fine. He is tough and stubborn.” Beth placed a comforting arm around Selena’s shoulder.

“Well he is going whether I like it or not. I suppose.” Selena dug around in her handbag for the sheet of contact information. When she found the paper, she handed it to Beth.

“What is this?” Asked Beth.

“I made a list of numbers to reach us if you need too. I have two cell phones and feel free to call them day or night. I also included the number of my attorney Julie. There is also an expense account. Please take Amy and do anything you would like to do. You can go to an Amusement Park or shopping. Kelsey my assistant can help you with whatever you need.” Selena explained.

Cade stood behind her when she turned to face him he had a silly grin on his face. Raising her eyebrows with the questioning look. She placed her hands on her hips.

“You are quite a little mother hen.” Cade said.

“Oh no you are right. I’m very sorry. I just worry. More than I should apparently.” Selena responded.

“I appreciate you wanting to take care of them. I was going to just tell them not to trash the place.” Cade kissed her on the cheek.

His lips felt warm on her skin. When she pulled away, she glanced at her watch and realized it was time to head for the airport.

She hugged Beth and Amy one last time as they set off on their trip. They hardly said two words to one another on the way. Selena wondered if she were crazy. Here she was with the perfect man, a man that was willing to put his life on the line. The revelation hit her like a ton of bricks. There were good people in her life and Cade would never hurt her. Hopefully, she could manage to hang on to him despite the situation back home.

When they stepped on the plane in the first-class section, she sat down. She at once began squirming nervously in her seat.

“Calm down Selena you are making me nervous.
